In this three hour workshop, we will explore the of basics of pysanky; a Ukrainian Easter egg, decorated with traditional Ukrainian folk designs using a wax-resist (batik) method. The word pysanka comes from the verb pysaty, “to write”, as the designs are not painted on, but written with beeswax. You’ll learn how to use the wax stylus to draw traditional or contemporary designs on eggs, and use the strong dyes to color eggs just in time for Easter celebrations. The eggs keep for a year so long as there are no cracks.
This class is for beginner teens and adults.
